Why is Barbara running for office? I have known my opponent since 1995, when I approached him to help us pass the Becca Bill, a bill that would keep our children safe and off the streets. We did it! Fourteen(14) years later, I, (and a friend), visited Bob while in Olympia, 04/09; good families from our district were crying out for help. I pleaded with him to sign on a bill that would grant law-abiding relatives 'standing" in a court of law when a child had no chance of going home to the parent. Once the state has custody of your biological child, the chances of ever seeing that child again, are slim to none and/or notification of the taking at all! This bill would have granted grandparents, relatives, and siblings, a right in court of law, dependency hearing, to "request" that their own "biological" family member be placed with them. Bob would not sign the bill. When I asked him, why? He said, " I do not sponsor bills anymore." I ask, " Why are you in office?"I wrote emails to him receiving only short notes in return while parents and relatives were/are calling me, pleading for help, in shock, realizing the law/court//judges did not recognize them. They could not speak in court while watching their family member taken away by a stranger, calling out for them.
Our tax dollars are paying foster to adopts over $700 + per month, per child, with more benefits than any biological family could hope to receive. Our own "watchdog agency for the state' confirms that 60 % of children are taken for little or no cause. The children and families become dysfunctional, special needs, more court ordered services, and more tax payer dollars that need not be spent at all. We have no orphans to keep this agency alive so who will be next? ...and for what reason that need not be proved when the state takes custody? A relative has no "rights" to even "speak."...defense or otherwise, or you are in contempt of court!
I had no knowledge that a court of law dishonors a relative while prioritizing stranger-placement for a child. Bob knew about it, and has always known. I ask you, " Why are we the last to know?" I was a council member at that time for my city; and, if I had no knowledge, did you?... and what other serious anti-family activities are in the works? Now, after watching the National Meeting of Governors on C-span this week, I learned the first cuts are going to Medicaid. Robbing from the poor to give to the poor, if at all. If we can not depend on our Senator, and legislators, folks, our forefathers died for not. I took a mandatory oath when I filed for the Senate that I would uphold the constitution; did our incumbents forget? Exactly what I told Bob. Made no difference, whatsoever. Thomas Jefferson made a difference!... Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and more! And our Veterans? What about them?... Servicemen giving their lives for us! I won't give up without a fight. Our flag is still there!
Later, Bob and others sent out a flier showing me that he had indeed signed bills relating to "land.' Did the bills make it? I don't think so. Land and children...hummmm..what about taxation, jobs, education? Land..I have extensive knowledge of the Department of Natural Resources; I want full-time employment! Yes, land is very important but not to be confused with a child's need to be with a biological family and support given to a biological family in lieu of a foster home, and at a lesser cost to taxpayers for the over 10,000 children currently in foster care or adopt homes that are paid until the child is 18 or out of school. Read the book, "Remember Cynthia Rose" and you will see the stats!
I accept the fact that not all people believe as I do, but I am willing
to work together to make OUR STATE AND DISTRICT a better place to live for all. A state/district that recognizes FAMILY as PRIORITY. Not dysfunctional, caused by separation that require special needs, special teachers, psychologists, sad children, parents, and more taxpayer money!
" We the people" of our STATE/district need be a huge part of the solution. Instead of saying to yourself," If they just did this," have that conversation with me! You need the truth; we need the truth!
While at a meeting, I was told that my city seemed to be the city that actually had a "surplus" at the end of the year. True. I want state-wide finance committee's to incorporate "small town solutions" especially when they work! Constantly taxing our people is not the answer. Get rid of waste!... Prioritize Necessity, " What we "need" opposed to "what we do not need." Fix the garbage truck, do not buy a new one. Keeping up with the "Jones' is not the solution. Use our lands or make money!
I am done withpromises of freedom of speech, religion, family as a fundamental right; our current RCW's, ignored in a court of law because of the added words, "discretion and consideration."
The only right a family member is given in a court of law ,and I might add, at great expense, is: " Consideration." Denied. We are losing are rights as a family when a new law is put into place that states, " a state/county social worker may come in to your home if they feel the need and without a police officer." I am told that is next folks. That is the next law to go to the legislature or will it.
I am sure you feel the same as I do, i.e., Empty promises "again" to make office and then turn a blind eye. I have not turned a blind eye, and I am working for FREE, as an advocate for the very constituents who are experiencing this injustice.
